Westchester NY K9 Unit Receives Donation from Best Friends White Plains

Best Friends Pet Care of White Plains has donated $500 to support the canine officers of the Westchester County Canine Unit as part of its “Canine Hero” campaign. The campaign honors the important work of the dogs whose job it is to serve and protect humans, including search and rescue dogs, canine, therapy dogs and service dogs.

When Best Friends opened the White Plains facility in 2005, it set aside a special “Canine Hero Suite.” Five dollars from the suite’s boarding rate is donate to organizations that train and work with these special dogs.

“We greatly appreciate this donation from Best Friends Pet Care and its clients,” said Officer Brian Tierney. The funds will be put to good use, for future training and medical care for our canine officers.”

“To most of us, dogs are family, but they can also be guides and protectors,” say Best Friends Pet Care manager Tara Manganiello. “Sometimes, they even give their lives for us. We designed this campaign to recognize the special dogs that serve and protect.”

The Westchester County Police Canine Unit consists of 11 K-9 Officers and their human handlers. The team comprises five explosive detection canines, three narcotic detection canines, two blood hounds for tracking and one German shepherd.
