Pet Training Customer Testimonial
6 November 2004
Dear Best Friends et al:
I am sorry that I have not communicated with you sooner to exclaim our
accomplishments with Cobe and his training with Spence Shepard at
Weloset (the dog trainer).
From search and destroy, to not responding to commands, Cobe has now
distinguished himself with passing the A.K.C. Canine Good Citizen Test,
and equally as important to us, he has the freedom of the house.
My wife has limited mobility and her right side is her better side and
less favored. Well, our Cobe has determined that if he backs up on her
right leg by picking up his left rear leg he can shinny up into her lap
and enjoy some extra petting. He has not been trained, or encouraged,
to do this be-cause of his size. It is a sight to behold and she will
tell you that he can do it in a way that it does not hurt her.
It does not seem that long ago that we were faced with a serious
decision
of having him put down because of his behavior and many told us we would
never change him because of his age and lack
of training, with the exception of Spence.
Cobe also has demonstrated his love of children at classes which
includes
letting our seven year old grandson put him through the commands with
great dispatch.
When Cobe came into our lives I was in the middle of radiation and
quite
lethargic, to say the least, and wanting to give him the benefit of
doubt I started walking him which eventually became 2 miles in the
morning and evening. Today, when we walk he responds to voice commands
and nothing moves in the forested area we walk through without his
either accepting or giving warning that he is there.
I have trained with others and seen companion dogs that could never
demonstrate the personality Cobe has developed during training and
socializing with the other dogs.
Many people have visions of what they would like their dogs to be and
a
great step to obtaining this vision is with training. We have been at
it over a year now and the understanding, caring, concerns and constancy
that Spence Shepard brings to each class is motivation for the dogs as
well as the owners.
The Richters are most grateful to Spence Shepard for his encouragement and
advice in bringing Cobe to where he is today and we are sure of many
pleasant tomorrows.
Sincerely,
Edwin F. Richter, Jr.
