Poisonous Plants and Your Pets

Philodendron -- Many varieties of philodendrons are poisonous and can lead to kidney or organ failure. Symptoms of poisoning can include oral irritation, excessive drooling, vomiting, and difficulty in swallowing.
Poinsettia -- A Christmas time favorite, this plant is a gastrointestinal toxin and can also produce dermatitis in animals.
Rhododendron -- The leaves of this ornamental shrub are toxic. Symptoms of poisoning can include vomiting, diarrhea, hypersalivation, weakness, coma, hypotension, and CNS depression.
Rhubarb -- Rhubarb leaves can lead to kidney or organ failure in animals.
Rosary Pea -- This vine displaying pea-shaped pods can prove fatal if chewed.
Umbrella Plant (Scheffelera) -- This leafy green plant, which is often kept as a houseplant, can lead to kidney or organ failure.
Yew -- This tree with needle-like foliage can be fatal to most animals, resulting in sudden death from acute cardiac failure. Symptoms may include muscular tremors and seizures in dogs.
