Poisonous Plants and Your Pets

Iris -- The leave and roots of this flower are toxic. Symptoms of poisoning can include vomiting (sometimes with blood), depression, diarrhea (sometimes with blood), hypersalivation and abdominal pain.
Jack-in-the-pulpit -- A flowering plant typically found in the woods, this plant can lead to kidney or organ failure.
Jerusalem Cherry -- The unripe fruit and foliage of this ornamental plant are toxic. Symptoms of poisoning can include gastrointestinal disturbances, seizures, depression, respiratory depression and shock.
Lantana -- This plant, with its tiny clusters of flowers, can lead to liver failure if ingested.
Lily of the Valley -- This bulb can prove potentially fatal to pets. Symptoms of poisoning can include vomiting.
Mistletoe -- The berries of this plant are toxic. Symptoms of poisoning can include gastrointestinal disorders, cardiovascular collapse and erratic behavior. In humans, this plant is hallucinogenic.
Morning Glory -- The seeds and roots of this plant are toxic. Symptoms of poisoning can include diarrhea, and the seeds may cause hallucination.
Narcissus -- The bulb of this garden flower is toxic. Symptoms of poisoning can include severe gastrointestinal disorders, convulsions, shivering, hypotension, dermatitis, muscular tremors and cardiac arrhythmias.
Nightshade -- The leaves and berries of this plant are toxic. Symptoms of poisoning can include hypersalivation, loss of appetite, severe gastrointestinal upset, diarrhea, drowsiness, CNS depression, confusion, behavioral change, weakness, dilated pupils and slow heart rate.
Oleander -- This bush with pretty pastel flowers is very poisonous and potentially fatal for pets. Symptoms of poisoning can include vomiting, diarrhea, and decreased body temperature.
