Cracked Foot Pads

Cracked foot pads can occur in dogs for several reasons, some known and some unknown. Certain chemicals found in garden sprays, rug shampoos and the like can irritate the paw and make a dog chew on it. Other reasons for cracked foot pads include autoimmune disorders, allergies, zinc deficiency, and chronic yeast infections.

Treatment of cracked foot pads often depends on the cause. Antifungal medications may be used to treat yeast infections, allergy injections for allergies, immune-suppressing drugs for autoimmune disorders, and so on. If your dog is suffering from cracked foot pads, have him seen by your veterinarian.
