BOARDING YOUR PET
Boarding kennel operators share an unmistakable motivation: a deep love, care and respect for animals. It was this motivation that forced a dedicated group of kennel operators to recognize that the love of animals by itself was not enough to guarantee the development of professional standards of pet care within the industry. They observed that there was a need for better educational opportunities for kennel operators, which would enable them to stay current with the most advanced developments in pet care, and the need to create a method of establishing and promoting high levels of ethical conduct within this industry. In order to achieve all these goals, this group of concerned kennel operators founded, in 1977, the American Boarding Kennels Association, the ABKA.
Nowadays, the ABKA has a membership of almost 1,600 kennels throughout the U.S. and Canada. The Association’s central mission is to help its member kennels develop and maintain the highest professional and business standards by means of its publications, conventions, seminars, regional meetings, ethics program, certification programs, accreditation programs for kennels and industry committees. This, in turn, enables ABKA members to offer you, the pet owner, the most knowledgeable, ethical pet care available anywhere.
