USDA REGULATIONS:
The USDA requires that only dogs older than eight weeks can travel by air, and that they must be weaned at least five days prior to the flight. Furthermore, USDA also prohibits the shipment of animals where temperatures are lower than 45 degrees or higher than 85 degrees. • Rules, regulations, and costs for pets traveling by air vary from airline to airline according to the type of pet that will be transported and the means that will be used to transport them, which you will need to discuss with them.
• Since the amount of pets allowed on a flight is limited, travel reservations should be placed well ahead of your departure date. Furthermore, pet approval is generally given on a first-come-first-served basis.
Remember that for any option chosen for transporting your pet by air, reservations are required and recommended well ahead of the scheduled departure. While the availability of options varies from airline to airline, there are often three types of transportation available: in cabin, as checked baggage, or as freight or cargo. Smaller pets are usually allowed to travel in cabin while larger pets must usually be sent as cargo.
