Facts About Dogs and Cats

PETS AIR TRAVELING
Air traveling might provide the advantage of covering distances in a shorter time period, allowing your pet to spend less time traveling. However, there are certain risks involved in the process that you need to be aware of. For example, some dogs at high altitudes experience breathing difficulties; others, such as sick, medicated, or pregnant dogs might not be in the best condition to travel. For safety reasons, make sure to bring with you copies of your pet's health and rabies certificates and pertinent documentation before you depart for the airport.

Talk to your veterinarian and arrange for a visit to see if your dog will be up for the travel. Direct flights with no connections are your best option and the only one you should consider. This way, you will reduce the risk of losing your pet when switching planes, as can happen with your luggage, and will also shorten the travel time. Additionally, due to the large number of travelers and the consequent highly chaotic environment, it’s best not to fly with your pet during weekends and holiday periods. Your pet may not receive the necessary care and attention, and the chances of your pet being misplaced or lost can be higher.

GETTING READY:
Make sure that your pet is wearing a collar with complete and updated information. If your pet is not used to being in a cage, you will need to get him used to it beforehand. The adaptation process should be made progressively, with just a few minutes at first and then gradually increasing the length of time. Before placing your pet is his carrier, it may be a good idea to exercise him as he may better be able to relax while flying.
