More Best Friends Centers Add Doggy Day Camp Programs
Best Friends industry-leading doggy day camp program is now being offered at six more locations across the U.S. The Best Friends centers in Avon, CT; Chadds Ford, PA Cincinnati, OH; Windsor, NJ and Ashland and Wakefield, MA have all opened doggy day camps this summer.
Doggy Day Camp offers group play, exercise and socialization under the watchful eye of specially-trained camp counselors. Campers not only spend time playing with other dogs, they also get individual attention from the staff and enjoy nap breaks and snack time.
Camp provides a healthy alternative to spending the day at home alone while the family is at work. Dogs left home alone all day can become frustrated and act out in negative ways such as barking, howling and chewing furniture. Camp is especially helpful for young dogs and high energy breeds that need lots of active play, but it is also beneficial for overweight dogs. Some veterinarians even recommend it for dogs with arthritis, assuming they are otherwise healthy, because the excitement of group play gets them up and moving.
At some Best Friends locations, the activities take place indoors, in a climate-controlled playroom; at other locations, the program is outdoors in a fenced play area. Some locations offer both indoor and outdoor spaces. All offer the careful oversight of trained staff, supervised group activities and one-on-one interaction with camp counselors.
