Puppy Training

Developing An Excellent Relationship With Your Dog
It is very common for dog owners to melt and give in as soon as their puppy begins to whine. This is a mistake and must be avoided. You should first understand that an extremely spoiled puppy can grow up to be a very stubborn dog that is used to getting his way. These dogs can be disobedient and hard to cope with or even train. To avoid this from happening, you must first lay out the basis of the relationship to be established with your dog. Your dog will need to respect and admire you. Teach your dog from an early age to obey and respect you. Keep in mind, however, that you should never attempt to get your dog’s respect by imposing your physical strength or by means of inflicting pain on him. On the other hand, you should not seek to get your dog’s approval by submissively accepting what he desires. You must find the perfect balance between both and enforce your authority when needed so as to make your dog understand that you are the one who will be in control. Once your dog correctly gets that idea, he will always respond properly to your commands.

Whining is also a technique used by dogs to get their owners to give them what they desire. In order to prevent this from occurring, never praise or reward your dog when he whines. The one exception is if your puppy whines because he needs to relieve himself. In this case, take him outside and allow him to do what he needs to do. Additionally, check to make sure that your puppy’s basic needs are being met, such as food, water, bedding, and so on. However, if the whining is used for other reasons, do not do what your puppy asks you to do, even if it breaks your heart.
