Dogs and The Denning Instinct

For any of these problems, you can also deter unwanted digging by providing a "safe spot" for the dog to dig. Try digging up a 4-square-foot area, two feet deep and filling it with sand. Bury a bone in there occasionally for the dog to later retrieve. This may be all it takes to satisfy many of the digging instincts. But above all, always remember to provide plenty of fun play for the dog to keep him happy.

Moreover, you can also try to crate your dog for protecting your home from dog-related destruction. You should then leave and lock your dog in his den for 15 minutes with his food. Release him after approximately 15 minutes and play a game with him. Do this and nothing else for about five days. By the end of this period you will have developed a new routine in your dog’s lifestyle that he’ll enjoy and look forward to.
