Best Friends Pet Care: Boarding, Grooming, and More

Submissive Urinating

Once you've determined any action that leads to the urinating, do your best to eliminate it. For instance, rather then bend over your dog, kneel down on the floor so that you're at his level. When dealing with this problem, be patient. Punishing or reprimanding your dog will only serve to frighten and intimidate him more. If he does accidentally urinate, simply clean it up without a fuss and forget about it.

Puppies typically outgrow this behavior by the age of six months. If, however, your dog continues to urinate spontaneously as he gets older or if there don't seem to be any submission issues, you should have your dog checked by your veterinarian. A lack of neuromuscular control over the bladder may be to blame.
