Pancreatitis in Cats

Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas. In cats, symptoms can include vomiting, abdominal pain, weight loss, jaundice and a reluctance to eat. Though it's unknown what exactly causes pancreatitis, the condition is often worsened by feeding cats table scraps or high fat meals.

If you suspect that your cat may have pancreatitis, have her seen by your veterinarian. Acute cases often require hospitalization and intravenous fluids as cats must be kept away from any food or water for several days. After that, it's often recommended that cats be fed small portions of low fat, highly digestible food.
