Colitis in Cats

Colitis is a medical condition which involves an inflammation of the colon, or large intestine. Colitis in cats can be caused by many factors, including infections, parasites, and food allergies or intolerances. Signs that your cat may have colitis include straining or discomfort while defecating, blood or mucus in the feces, constipation, and/or diarrhea. The condition can be minor in some cats, but it can be severe in others.

If you suspect that your cat may have colitis, have her seen by your veterinarian. An anti-inflammatory medication may be prescribed for your cat and/or dietary management for certain types of colitis.
