When training your cat or kitten, there are three important things to keep in mind:
1. Put an end to all reprimands and punishment regardless of your cat's behavior and concentrate instead on making your relationship fun, rewarding, playful and interesting. Often times, owners are surprised to find that this alone will solve many problems.
2. Give your cat opportunities to succeed so that you can reward him. Positive reinforcement through rewards if by far the most effective method of cat raining.
3. Make certain that your cat's environment is set up for rewards and success rather than misbehavior. For instance, make sure that your cat has something else to scratch on, such as a scratching post, if you don't want him scratching your furniture.
No matter what type of training you are planning for your cat, always remember that cats learn best through the use of rewards, praise and positive reinforcement. Set kitty up to succeed and set yourself up to succeed with your cat. Not only will this approach be more effective, you will both have a much more pleasant experience with training.
