Like Americans everywhere, Best Friends associates across the country were horrified by the events of September 11th. As they talked with one another and with customers about their grief and fear, our associates felt an overwhelming need to reach out and help.
Three of our pet resorts located close to ground zero - North Plainfield, NJ, Chestnut Ridge, NY and Rocky Hill, CT -- were established as drop-off centers for donations to help the canine rescue teams working at "ground zero" as well as the many pets left homeless by the tragedy. Customers have been extraordinarily generous. To date, more than 2,000 pounds of food, bottled water, doggie boots, blankets, bowls and other pet supplies, in addition to cash contributions, have been collected. Donations are being routed to New York through the ASPCA, the Connecticut Humane Society, and several local rescue organizations. Best Friends people offers our thoughts and support to all those who have been touched by this tragedy, and we extend deepest gratitude to all who have worked tirelessly in the search, rescue and recovery efforts.
