The quest for good animal-themed children's books just got easier, thanks to the latest addition to the ASPCA's website--"Kids, Animals & Literature," an annotated bibliography of more than 300 titles.
Each book has been reviewed by ASPCA's Humane Education department and recommended for its accuracy, humane themes and "readability." Pet care guides, nonfiction works on all types of animals, picture books and poetry collections are included, as are novels and nature guides, and tales of humane heroes such as John Muir and Rachel Carson. To access the booklist, go to www.aspca.org/bibliography.

Each year, the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association honors several special animals for their outstanding contributions to our lives. Veterinarians from across the state of Georgia may nominate animals for induction into the Georgia Animal Hall of Fame. The awards are presented in September at a special luncheon during the GVMA Convention.
Nominees must be domestic animals living in Georgia who exemplify the affection, loyalty, security and value of the human-animal bond. Any type of animal may be nominated. There are three categories: Companion (for an animal who has provided a benefit to his/her human companion or their community), Professional (for specially trained assistance animals) and Hero (for an animal who has saved or preserved human life).
For information on how to nominate an animal, contact the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association at (678) 309-9800 or go to www.gvma.net.
