Best Friends Supports Local Police with Special Donations To Westchester NY and Lumberton NJ Canine Units
Dogs are our friends and companions, our guides and protectors. Sometimes, they even give their lives to save ours. Best Friends has a long-standing commitment to supporting dogs in service roles, as two recent donations reflect.
Best Friends White Plains NY Center recently presented a check for $1500 to the Canine Unit of the Westchester County Police Department to help support the training and care of the dogs who work with unit members.
The donation comes from the proceeds of the White Plains center’s special “Canine Hero Suite.” Best Friends set aside $5 of the boarding fee for every night the suite is occupied for donation to community agencies that train and develop the special dogs whose job it is to serve and protect humans -- search and rescue dogs, K-9 police, therapy dogs, service dogs and others.
Separately, the Best Friends centers in Cinnaminson and West Berlin NJ recently presented a A Kevlar ballistic body armor vest to Rocket, the Lumberton NJ Police Department’s canine officer, to help keep him safe when he is on duty: Valued at $650, the vest was purchased with funds raised through the “Dogs Who Serve” campaign.
The staff of the two Best Friends South Jersey facilities launched the “Dogs Who Serve” campaign last year to raise money to help outfit working dogs with equipment they need to serve the public. They hosted several fundraising events for the cause and also collected donations in-store. The company matched all contributions from the public.
