Thank you for your lovely letter. Your wonderful tone helps me understand why Best Friends is so wonderful - it comes from the top!
I'd love to participate and have Sophie featured on your website. I would love to know when though so I can brag about my baby being a star (of course!). Enclosed is my favorite picture of Sophie - as crazy as she is in camp, she's a total couch potato at home and rightfully so! She works hard at camp!
Our story is probably a typical one. I actually found Sophie in a pet store. I swore I would never buy a dog from one, but there she was. She just stared at me through the window and wouldn't take her eyes off me so I had to at least play with her. And when we met face to face, well it was love at first sight! When I picked her up, she just pressed her nose against mine and I took her home. We haven't been apart since. She is truly my best friend and the love of my life!
A bit about Sophie… she dislikes nothing! She seems to find pleasure in everything (we humans can sooo learn valuable lessons from our furry friends, huh?). Some of her favorite things are: her Frisbee, pizza, popcorn, and french fries with ketchup! She loves to play Frisbee of course and also loves to play hide-and-seek. I started hiding behind a tree a few months ago to work with her on the "come" command and she thought it was a game! Now Sophie hides behind the tree and I go to her! Who's teaching whom???!!!
And of course her favorite thing in the whole world is CAMP!!! She's been a camper since she was 5 ½ months old (she's 19 months now). I decided early on that she needed an outlet for that wonderful energy and I wanted her to be happy and you know what they say - a tired dog is a happy dog! And she's both!! She goes every day to Chestnut Ridge, which we both think is the best place on earth! In fact, I always speak to the other doggie moms and dads and they agree!
Your organization has a gem of a facility - people should go there to be trained in how to care for animals and how to deal with their parents! They're a wonderful bunch! At camp, Sophie loves all of her doggie friends, but when we get home, she tells me her favorite part is being with her human friends! They love her so much and treat her just like I do and I trust them with her life and well being - they are, after all, her second family and she's known many of them since she was just a baby.
Well, Sophie will continue to be a camper as long as she wants to and I think she will want to for a long time to come! Thank you for letting us both be a part of such a special place!
