A Well-Trained Dog

You may have a puppy or dog. You likely have the best intentions when it comes to his training. Nevertheless, it's easy to sometimes let that training fall to the wayside. It may be frustrating or confusing or just too time-consuming or boring for you. But it's important that every time you get frustrated with his behavior you remember that you're the one responsible for teaching him what is right and what is wrong. If he doesn't know that, you haven't done your job.

A dog who has never been trained won't know what's expected of him. On the contrary, a well-trained dog will understands what's expected of him and knows his boundaries. His good manners will help in any number of situations. If you need to check him for injury or illness or give him medication, he'll allow you to handle every part of his body. He won't pull you down the road when on a leash, but rather will walk or run beside you as you wish. He will know the commands ‘sit', ‘stay', and ‘come', which are always useful but can also help to keep him safe. He'll know the commands ‘drop it' or ‘leave it'. He'll be well-behaved and under control in a variety of situations.

If you need help training your dog, find a good obedience class to attend or an obedience instructor. It's important that you stick with and be determined to train your dog well. You and your whole family will be happier for it and so will he.
