Your Pet's Health

You may think it's okay for you to put off that trip to the doctor, but don't do the same thing with your pets. An essential part of ensuring your pet's health involves regular trips to the vet. This will allow any problems to be caught while they're still relatively small or minor, which is much better than waiting until they've become a serious health concern. The reason for this is that the average life of a dog or cat is only about 1/4 th to 1/6 th of that of a human's. As such, changes in our pet's health occur at a much more rapid pace.

During a young pet's growth phase, regular trips to the vet help to keep an eye on any potential developmental problems and ensure that your pet is properly maturing. Also, around the age of 5 to 6 months, a pet's dental development should be checked. This is particularly important for some small breed dogs who have a tendency to retain some of their deciduous teeth after the time when they should have fallen out which can lead to permanent problems.

Young adults should have annual examinations. This will allow your vet to catch any problems before they become serious. This can include dental problems that can lead to periodontal disease as well as weight problems. Around middle age, regular check-ups with your vet are important for the detection of things like heart conditions, eye disease, and tumors. Also, check-ups involving dental care and weight management should be continued. As a dog continues to age, your vet can help with any problems like hypothyroidism or osteoarthritis. By keeping up-to-date on your pet's health, you can help him to live a happy, comfortable and long life.
