Growing kittens need lots of nourishment. In fact, a growing kitten requires four times the amount of calories per body weight than an adult cat. Nevertheless, kittens have far smaller stomachs than adult cats. Because of that, it's best for your kitten to be fed a high-quality food especially made for kittens so that she can get all her necessary calories and nutrients in small amounts. Still, at this point in your kitten's life, don't worry about her eating too much or getting fat. Instead, let her eat as much as she can and wants. A high-quality kitten food also contains the right proteins, minerals and vitamins that your kitty requires. If you're uncertain about what food to choose, talk with your veterinarian.
You can start feeding your kitty adult cat food around the age of eight or nine months. Be sure to introduce this new food slowly by mixing a little bit of the adult food with the kitten food and gradually increasing the amount. Your cat will likely reach her mature weight around the age of one year or a little later for males. |
