Grooming and Bathing Cats

Do cats really need to be groomed and bathed? The simple answer is yes, they do. Many cat owners think their cats don't need to be bathed or groomed, particularly given that they spend so much of their time grooming and bathing themselves, and further that giving a cat a bath can be an impossible task. However, there are those who believe that grooming and bathing your cat is a necessity.

First off, most indoor cats exposed to home air conditioning and heating shed continually, rather than just twice yearly as they would in the wild. In addition, stressful situations can also result in shedding. The problem with this constant shedding is that cats groom themselves by nature and ultimately end up swallowing loosened hair. This results in hairballs and, in extreme situations, an accumulation of hair in the intestine or bowels which could require surgery. Regular grooming will lessen hairballs and keep your kitty more comfortable.
