Q Do dogs actually bury bones or is that just an old wives' tale?
A Some dogs do bury bones and even toys. They often do this in a yard, but you can also observe some dogs doing this inside, burying their prized possessions beneath a blanket. This is an instinctive behavior for dogs that harkens back to their wild ancestors. Wolves and fox bury food to preserve it, particularly if they have killed a large animal or more than one. Later, the food will be unearthed and eaten.
